As is well known, there have always been issues with MIDI synchronization between DAW and Hardware synth/drum machines. After trying various solutions, I discovered this legacy Midipal/MidiGal from Mutable Instruments. Since it’s not sold in my country, I DIY’d and modified a set, adding magnetic connections and a 7V battery.
Additionally, there is a MidiDisp firmware that can replace the smart cable for separating MIDI channels.
MidiSync clock generator
The primary purpose of MidiSync firmware is to generate a stable MIDI Clock using the less stable MIDI Clock usually received from a DAW. To do this MidiSync averages incoming MIDI Clock over the period of one quarter note (24 MIDI Clock ticks) and uses the average period to calculate incoming clock BPM.
MidiDisp dispatcher
MidiDisp firmware routes MIDI notes and related messages received on one MIDI channel to several channels. This allows you to play a set of monophonic synths as one poly-synth or layer synths played using a single keyboard.
